In every challenge lies opportunity.

I have a feeling that whoever said that first wasn’t faced with a global pandemic, hoarding of toilet paper, and kids being forced out of schools. To put it bluntly, this is one hell of a challenge.

But there is an opportunity.

As a speaker and trainer, I spend a great deal of time on the road. I’ve missed a lot of school events and birthdays in pursuit of that dream. For my kids, a lot of our interaction comes through facetime calls and text messages and they’ve seen the walls of a lot of hotel rooms in the background. But this week all of that has changed. Ohio’s Governor has closed the schools and I’ve been grounded so we’re all under one roof together.

In every challenge lies opportunity.

I wasn’t cut out to be a school teacher. I lack the patience to put up with kids being kids, but since we’re all here, I am determined to make the most of it and find the opportunity. If we’re all home together, how can we use our time constructively so that when we can finally leave the house, we’re walking out stronger, smarter people? To answer that question, I made a schedule. Combining all of the elements important to a family’s development, there is order in the Fisher House and we’re having a ball.

Our Schedule:

As you can see, we’re having fun, we’re learning and we’re staying busy but mostly, we’re making memories. We still fight and not everyone loves every activity, but through it all, we’re together. We’re getting the time that we never seem to have. Is it a challenge? Absolutely. In that challenge, however, is the opportunity of a lifetime.
